As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to evolve, comparisons have been drawn to influenza. Both cause respiratory disease, yet there are important differences between the two viruses.
Both COVID-19 and influenza are respiratory illnesses, but COVID-19 has a higher chance of infecting more people. COVID-19 is also more likely to result in severe and critical infections than the flu. Mortality for COVID-19 also appears higher than for the flu. Finally, no known cures or vaccines currently exist for COVID-19. For more information on COVID-19 visit: ldh.la.gov/coronavirus President Trump: 30 Days To Stop The Spread. COVID-19 GENERAL INFORMATION: COVID-19 is primarily spread through the air by coughing & sneezing, close personal contact, and touching an object with the virus on it then touching your mouth/nose/eyes. To protect yourself, wash your hands often (for 20 seconds) with soap and water, avoid touching your mouth/nose/eyes, and disinfect frequently-touched surfaces daily. Symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. If you are having symptoms or believe you may have come into contact with an infected person, call your doctor. If you have a medical emergency, call 911 and let them know you may have COVID-19. Let me be clear: Our ventilator capacity is far from okay. The problem isn’t just that cases are growing every day, it’s that they are growing rapidly every day. This alarming growth has a devastatingly fast impact on our resources and ability to take care of people.
I want people if Louisiana to know that we are doing everything we humanly can to deal with this emergency. But our efforts are for naught if people aren’t doing their part by following the stay at home order to stop spread, flatten the curve and flatten the curve. #lagov #covid19 BATON ROUGE- State Fire Marshal H. ‘Butch’ Browning, in collaboration with Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, have issued a statewide cease and desist order for all private burning, pursuant to authority under R.S. 40:1602. Private burning shall only be allowed by permission of the local fire department or local government. This order is effective as of 8 a.m., March 25, 2020 and shall remain in effect until rescinded.
‘This burn ban is necessary to supplement the governor’s Stay At Home order aimed at mitigating the spread of COVID-19 due to the anticipation that there may be an increase in open burning occurring across the state as families look for ways to pass the time at home,” said State Fire Marshal H. ‘Butch’ Browning. ‘This order will assist in preventing potential fire-related dangers that could result in unnecessary fire service response as well as diminish airborne irritants caused by burning’. This ban shall not apply to prescribed burns by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, by those trained and certified by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, or by those who conduct prescribed burning as a ‘generally accepted agriculture practice’ as defined by the Louisiana Right to Farm Law (R.S. 3:3601 et seq.). Violation of this Fire Marshal order could result in criminal and/or civil penalties. Governor Edwards: 'Stay at Home’ order effective at 5:00 PM today (March 23) until April 13. Governor John Bel Edwards issued a statewide ‘STAY AT HOME’ order that goes into effect at 5:00 PM on Monday, March 23, to further fight the spread of COVID-19 in Louisiana, as the number of confirmed cases have topped 800 and spread to more than half of our parishes.
The order is set to expire at the end of the night on Sunday, April 12. The Governor will re-evaluate the need for the statewide Stay at Home order and other mitigation measures currently in place to determine if they need to be extended beyond April 12. It’s important to note that you are not ‘confined’ to your house. Grocery stores and pharmacies will remain OPEN so there is still no need to hoard groceries or supplies. Restaurants can continue to serve take-out/delivery. Click HERE to read the official ‘STAY AT HOME’ order.
