PRESS RELEASE

2/21/2025

We are proud to announce that Lafourche Parish Fire Protection Distriet 8-B (Choctaw Volunteer Fire Department) has officially purchased a new fire apparatus (pumper).

Over the years, Choctaw Volunteer Fire Department has received overwhelming support from the community and surrounding areas. Support from the fire district's parcel fee, state funding assistance with the support of State Representative Bryan Fontenot, and financial support from the Choctaw Volunteer Fire Department have made this purchase possible. In additon, we would also like to thank Mr. Keith Ward and the rest of the Sunbelt Fire team for their outstanding support throughout the purchasing process.

A project that began back in 2023 has now become reality as of this morning when Mr. Leroy Cortez, Jr. (District Chairman), executed documents accepting the newly delivered truck. While the truck has been delivered and accepted, it will remain at the local dealership for a moment to professionally finalize some upfits.

This is a major accomplishment for a small rural department that was incorporated in 1983 under the leadership of Fire Chief Michael Delatte. To date, this is only the second "new" firetruck to be purchased by the organization. The first was a 1988 unit that remains in the department's fleet.

With the acquisition of this new piece of equipment comes many other enhancements to the organization's capabilities. While focusing on a continuous improvement process, the organization has also recently made many other equipment purchases to better serve and protect the district.

The organization has scheduled an Open House / Truck Dedication Ceremony on March 9, 2025 and would like to invite everyone to attend. Additional information will soon be shared.

We would like to once again "Thank" everyone for their continued support and for making accomplishments like this possible.
